20.07.2018 - things to do while there is no VROOOM

While VROOOM is having a break we recommend to check out the amazing Romperayo and others over at Pantropical in WORM. Romperayo is a fantastic band from Bogotá; a fast moving musical journey through Colombian tropical folklore. The 4-piece with drummer extraordinaire Pedro Ojada (Los Pirañas, Chúpame El Dedo, etc.) at the helm is part of the forward-thinking Colombian music scene that re-interprets its own roots in unorthodox ways. Deltatron from Lima is one of the most representative artists of Peru’s current electronic dance music scene.

Vrooom #62 is where an ingenious instrument developer will present her unique creations, where the rambling musical styles of a Roffa-based New Zealander can be heard one last time (he's moving to Hamburg soon), and where the up-and-coming French electronica artist Raymonde will create stunning musical dialogues. Add to that the selections of mister expert ear Le Romph, and you'll have more startling combinations than a hot summer Thursday can handle. Last one before our summer break!

DIANNE VERDONK┆nl

Dianne is a performer, composer and instrument developer. She seeks the ultimate personal form of musical expression in the creation and performance of electroacoustic music. She operates within different contexts as a double bass, and cello player but Dianne's craving for making and performing expressive electronic and electroacoustic music inspired her to build the electronic instrument 'La Diantenne'. The 'Bellyhorn' is her second self-built instrument, developed during a residency at Gaudeamus Muziekweek in cooperation with four designers (David Menting, Daniëlle van Lunteren, Toon Welling and Quinten Swagerman) based at Vechtclub XL in Utrecht. The 'Pulseyarn' is her third creation; a big pendulum to create rhythms on the spot.

DEZE SOFTWARE IS SHAREWARE.┆nz

Deze Software is Shareware is the rambling musical styles of a Roffa-based New Zealander. A self-proclaimed degenerate punk who says this is not a throwback to former selves nor the lonesome half to E-Kare, but rather a patched release of abandonware/freeware/shareware smeared across an array of VG consoles. Deze Software is Shareware is a reflection of Householder, a rotation about Givens and a search for identity from a failed computational mathematician, this is nonsense. In reality, Deze Software is Shareware is a live reading of Paulo Freire's 'Pedagogy of the Oppressed' and an ode to the plight of the schoonmaker.

RAYMONDE┆fr

Raymonde is the alias of Thibault de Raymond; an electronica artist from Lyon. Thibault became active in music around 2001, played guitar influenced by what he calls afro-noise. He then co-founds the group Pan Pan Pan, and goes solo with Raymonde in 2008. With his main project he creates stunning musical dialogues between interlaced electronic tools: 4-track recorders, 80s samplers, grooveboxes, delays, and a quadraphonic sound system. The interaction between the four speakers generate a spatial, polyrythmic and percussive effect, and the tape recordings reproduce, through the particularity of its sound, the 'old' cry of raging synths and 'hijacked' guitars; a nod to Noise music that Raymonde loves so much. He recently recorded his forthcoming album on Brussels' finest imprint VLEK at Les Ateliers Claus. Quality stuff!

LE ROMPH
(roffa)
DJ who has fallen victim to contemporary musical omnivorism, which shows in his mixes. Proto-techno? Check. Oriental synth experiments? Included. Exotic leftfield boogie? Got it. Industrial balearics? It's there! Le Romph will be a fine addition to the live performances of this Vrooom.
