#50; it's hard to believe we made it this far, already, but let's skip the sentimentalism and get right to it: we're delighted to welcome the revered Geoff Leigh and Makoto Kawabata (of Henry Cow, and Acid Mothers Temple Official respectively). They are visiting Vrooom after playing the Avantgarde Festival in Germany. Veterans Plan Kruutntoone have 25 years of vast experience under their belt, and will present their new album "Wat doen de handen". Charlois-via-Southeast Asia-via-France resident DJ Urine will play a set of turntable wizardy unlike anything you'd expect from the term 'turntablism'.
GEOFF LEIGH & MAKOTO KAWABATA (uk/jp)
New duo project that embraces a wide range of styles and influences, mixing elements ethnic/global, rock, jazz, ambient, & electronica, and is completely improvised.
GEOFF LEIGH –– flutes, soprano sax, laptop processing, voice
Well known for his work with Henry Cow in the early 70's, as well as contributing to fellow Virgin records bands of the time; Hatfield And The North, and Slapp Happy. In recent years Geoff has collaborated with members of Faust, Porcupine Tree (as Ex-Wise Heads with bassist Colin Edwin), Nurse With Wound, and musicians such as Mitsuru Tabata, Tatsuya Yoshida, & Nana Tsiboe. He is currently a member of Jump For Joy (featuring members of Faust & Henry Cow), and The Artaud Beats (also featuring Henry Cow alumni).
MAKOTO KAWABATA –– guitar, synthesiser, electronics, voice
Bandleader, guitarist / multi-instrumentalist of Acid Mothers Temple. While he's best known for his earsplitting guitar heroics with AMT, he's also the founder of his own school of ecstatic guitar drone using bowing and glissando techniques. Kawabata first started releasing works for electronics and homemade instruments in 1978. Since then his activities have been almost too wideranging to grasp: he has formed multiple units, released a plenitude of albums on many different labels and toured extensively all over the globe. He has played together with psychedelic originators like Gong, Guru Guru, Silver Apples, Nik Turner, Damo Suzuki, Träd Gräs och Stenar, with Occitanian trad musicians from the south of France, and in innumerable other sessions spanning all genres.

PLAN KRUUTNTOONE (nl)
Having been called the most overlooked avant-rock group of The Netherlands, Plan Kruutntoone is a band with strong, poetic lyrics sung in the Dutch language. The trio that sometimes is accompanied by a string-quartet can be seen as part of the same cultural heritage that shaped artists like De Kift, Broeder Dieleman, and The Ex, to name some of their contemporaries. A sound that is also akin to artists of RēR / Recommended Records. The band toured extensively in east of Europe, Russia, and in the Balkan region. They will present their brand new, fifth full-length album "Wat doen de handen", released on Esc.Rec.

DJ URINE (fr)
Parisian sound artist who creates literal sound collages from fragments of vinyl records. From pizza slice like shards to mosaics, these are assembled in various hands-on methods, then played on 1 to 7 customized turntables, to build up rhythms, loops and textures out of many different musical genres. Sped-up Bollywood vocals can be heard over corrupted bars of Zappa, French folk songs, spoken word guitar tutors and breakcore, resulting in a delightfully imaginative chaotic barrage of sounds. Urine collaborated with e.g. Kawabata Makoto (see above), Otto Von Schirach, Senyawa, etc.
