Vrooom is checking in at Klooster Oude Noorden for an evening of catchy songs and playful sound. 20 Guilders is the Tokyo-Based duo of Suzuki Junzo and Mitsuru Tabata, who play dreamy acid-folk songs. Tabata is a founding member of the Hanatarash and Boredoms, and is also known for his involvement in Acid Mothers Temple and Zeni Geva. Suzuki Junzo usually plays solo guitar noise sets and is a member of Miminokoto. Sam Gas Can indulges in meta-pop-art. Gigaldi Gratt will play the Flügelhorn alongside Richie Herbst's analog modular synthesizer explorations.

┆20 GUILDERS┆jp - Tabata Mitsuru & Suzuki Junzo
Famed Tokyo troublemakers Tabata Mitsuru and Suzuki Junzo got together to create dreamy psych-folk as the duo 20 Guilders. With lots of experience between them as (ex-) members of Acid Mothers Temple, Zeni Geva, Miminokoto, Overhang Party, etc, they incorporate influences from around the globe in their refined repertoire of catchy psych songs. Based on the straightforward, gentle guitarwork of Junzo and the heartfelt singing of Tabata, their songs are often peaceful, but also contain occasional bursts of fuzz.

┆SAM GAS CAN)┆us
Sam Gaskin has been playing and recording music for more than ten years under the moniker of Sam Gas Can, with which has released a wide variety of releases. He played various instruments in free-form bands like Sunburned Hand of the Man, and Egg, Eggs [sic]. His unique vision of DIY self-expression salutes the original cassette culture generation with a precise use of pop song structures and with a sparkling sense of humour. He is very much of the Jad Fair school of thought; put something in his hands and he will be able to play, and play it "well". Think also of R. Stevie Moore, early Beck or Vyto B.

He is also the cofounder of the label Interstellar Records. Christian Gratt is a renowned Austrian guitarist, bassist, trumpeter and composer, who plays solo shows, composes musical scores, and collaborates in many different musical settings.

Whoops, it's our seventieth, how did that happen, will someone do an eulogy for us? On the program: A father/daughter dada-leaning duo whose improvised musical and geographical excursions will leave your head spinning like a well rubbered doughnut in a car park. A special occasion live collab between Guido Hübner (Das Synthetische Mischgewebe) and Rotterdam-based expert knob twiddler Roel Meelkop, and, last but not least: a live coding set by eerieear.

┆YEAH YOU┆uk
Yeah You is daughter/father duo Elvin Brandhi and Gustav Thomas. Their project grew from a desire to make something during every spare moment, using compact recording gear to turn banal everyday family drives to into spontaneous recording sessions in the car. Thomas’s distorted and alluringly jarred synthesisations act as a jagged platform for Brandhi to writhe improvised stream of consciousness lyrical trips. Their latest LP 'KRUTCH' is a burst of poisonous, weaponised pop spat out on the roam, and captures the exhilaration of driving with your eyes closed. Recorded mainly in a Renault Clio in The Netherlands and Germany throughout early 2017, it is the duo at a freshly terrifying apex, funneling desperation through an unerring noise pop lens.

┆DAS SYNTHETISCHE MISCHGEWEBE & ROEL MEELKOP┆de/nl
Guido Hübner (DSM) & Roel Meelkop have been involved in experimental music for decades. DSM initially formed as a group in Berlin in the early 1980s and quickly became part of the early international industrial cassette scene. Composing for light installations with open-reel machines, cassette recorders, microphone and guitar fuzz boxes, they created a type of electroacoustic anti-music. With unusual concerts in the underground network as well as in high art institutions and museums (Centre Pompidou, etc.), the group toured with changing casts for many years. Hübner remained as the fixed core. Meelkop has similar origins in projects such as THU20, Kapotte Muziek and GOEM. Together the duo will perform for this particular occasion. Their duo performance will be characterized by the use of modular sets on stage: an acoustic one (DSM) and an electronic one (RM).

┆eerieear┆ar
eeriear from Buenos Aires has been meticulously tuning up his scripts for his live-coding set at Vrooom. Live coding or 'on-the-fly programming' is an integral part of the running program in question. As a performing art form it is a creativity technique centred upon the writing of source code and the use of interactive programming in an improvised way. Live coding is often used to create sound and image based digital media, as well as light systems, improvised dance and poetry, though is particularly prevalent in computer music.
