VROOOM 16:
GUSTAVO COSTA (pt)
– DJ URINE (fr)
– OYO & MMTHS (bg/at)
NAN WANG (cn)
– GOZ (pt)
+ dj lndpnd

location: Klooster
Hammerstraat 63, Rotterdam
doors / start: 20:30 / entrance: €6

After our April excursions to both De Player and Worm, we're back at Klooster Oude Noorden with a fine new program! Our homecoming event will feature the latest projects of local Piet Zwart Institute / Filmwerkplaats disciples Nan Wang and Yoana Buzova, Portugese imports Gustavo Costa and Gonçalo Almeida, and more! An evening of superglued Fisher-Price turntablism, dust fetishism, cavernous drones, percussion and interesting visual works.

• GUSTAVO COSTA (pt)
If it's any indication, we know this multitalented percussionist from one of his many different projects; Most People Have Been Trained To Be Bored. We used a contribution of this band for a radio show produced with Worm back in 2005; a wonderful cross section compilation on the then blossoming experimental music scene in Portugal. Fact is, that vibrant bacalhau energy never faded, which prompted this booking. Solid stuff!

• DJ URINE (fr)
Parisian sound artist who creates literal sound collages from fragments of vinyl records. From pizza slice like shards to mosaics, these are assembled in various hands-on methods, then played on 1 to 7 customized turntables, to build up rhythms, loops and textures out of many different musical genres. Sped-up Bollywood vocals can be heard over corrupted bars of Zappa, French folk songs, spoken word guitar tutors and breakcore, resulting in a delightfully imaginative chaotic barrage of sounds. Urine collaborated with e.g. Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mothers Temple), Otto Von Schirach, Senyawa, etc.

• OYO & MMTHS (bg/at)

[OYO - multiprojector module pilot / MMTHS - soundroneaut]
Special one-off pairing of OYO (Yoana Buzova) and MMTHS (Matthias Hurtl), who will experiment with sound and images of 16 mm found footage; manipulating banal educational films, searching for ghost satellites, lost cosmonauts and black holes.

NAN WANG (cn)
Nan Wang is a Chinese media artist and experimental filmmaker. In the past six years she has been producing abstract video and sound works, and installations. Currently fixated on something seemingly mundane as dust collected in her bedroom, her performance for Vrooom #16 will be exploring the usage of this particular micro-physical material in image and sound.

GOZ (pt)
[Gonçalo Almeida - bass / Thorben van Nu - live visuals]
Gonçalo Almeida is one of the busiest bees in Rotterdam's music scene, and when he's not in, he's touring the EU exhaustively. For this evening, he will be dropping his duties for Albatre and his gazzilion other projects and play a cavernous ambient solo set accompanied by live visuals. Think Sunn O))) being raped by the ghost of Robert Johnson in a drunken brawl.
