Vrooom #88: award-winning baritone saxophone playing, (body) movements and synesthetic experiences of sound, a left hand cutting of the right and the twinkling twitchings in the aftermath. Come, All Ye Faithful.

┆ LOU BARNELL ┆ (UK)

Lou Barnell is a London-born sound, movement and sculpture artist and radio DJ. As a neurodivergent woman who sometimes finds the world alienating and disorientating, Lou uses movement, music and sculpture to communicate her synesthetic experience of sound and to reorientate herself. She wants to use performance to dissolve the cheap packaging of women’s bodies and selves in public life. Lou experiments with her body and shape-shifting re-useable materials such as ice, thermoplastic and wearable sensors to create an intense explosion of sensory experimentation and melting matter. She won the 2021 Oram Awards Supported by The PRS Foundation and The New BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

┆LEFT HAND CUTS OFF THE RIGHT ┆ (UK)
Left Hand Cuts off the Right (Robbie Judkins) is an outlet for exploratory methods and composition. During live performances he plays with bent electronics, acoustic instruments, field recordings, loops and effects. The sounds are of otherworldliness, twinkling twitchings, habitual drones, crackling rhythms and aural oddities. Robbie has created works for the Barbican, ICA, Resonance FM, Turner Contemporary, Cafe Oto, NTS, Whitechapel Gallery, University of Central Lancashire and more. He is also the creator of Animal Sounds (Resonance FM) and Parallax View (Threads Radio).

┆GIUSEPPE DORONZO ┆ (IT)
Guiseppe Doronzo (Barletta, 1987) is an Amsterdam-based composer, sound artist, educator, radio broadcaster, but first and foremost a saxophone player. He focuses his research on the baritone saxophone, aiming for a vocabulary that is informed by his background in contemporary classical music, jazz improvisation and his interest in non-western music. Guiseppe is also known for his many collaborations and projects, including work with dancers and choreographers, and giving workshops. He recently won the Buma music on motion award for 'best original composition' for the music he wrote for the short film "Goya".
