Vrooom #49 kicks off with the trio of Pak Yan Lau, Audrey Lauro, and Reinhold Bogaard. Their "Stills / Uit Zicht" performance translates the transformation of six nearly static images into a mesmerizing slide show & live music set. Up next are local champs Albatre with their excellent noise rock / jazz hybrid. Doomsday Student's live show is pregnant with anxiety-inducing guitar wails, strange but hard rocking rhythms, and lyrics that read as depraved anecdotes and confessions. DJ's Neliz + Joriz will spin records.
DOOMSDAY STUDENT (us)
Doomsday Student is Eric Paul, Stephen Mattos, Craig Kureck, and Paul Vieira. Made up of members from bands such as Arab on Radar, The Chinese Stars, and Athletic Automaton, one should not be particularly surprised by the level of dissonance, mania, and peculiarity thoughtfully melded into every layer of the music, from unsettling lyrics to hysteric guitars and irregular rhythms. Obnoxious to those who seek the obvious but beloved by many others.

ALBATRE (int'l)
Albatre just returned from a European tour in March/April, and are keen to subject their homecrowd again to some truely pummeling, bass heavy noise rock. This trio is a commanding display of urgent bass & sax noise, skewed jazz elements, meticulous drumming and abrupt moodshifts. Albatre spearheads a scene of artists highlighting the crossover of improvisation, noise rock and jazz made in The Netherlands.

PAK YAN LAU / AUDREY LAURO / REINHOLD BOGAARD
– "Stills / Uit Zicht"
Six static images that transform with the live performance by Pak Yan Lau and Audrey Lauro. The STILLS project of Pak Yan Lau and Audrey Lauro cooperates with UIT ZICHT; Reinhold Bogaard providing the slide projections. The gradual changing of light and shadows is explored in six scenes each taken at a different time of day. Somewhere between film and static image each of the six scenes transforms under the influence of earth's orbit around the sun, gradual and mesmerizing. Stills uses these images as a score introducing elements of minimalism and noise to create a soundtrack that translates these almost frozen dynamics into sounds.
• Pak Yan Lau – toypiano's, synth, clockworks and electronics
• Audrey Lauro – alt saxophone
• Reinhold Bogaard – slide projector installation
